Hi. My name is Lauri Stoltzfus and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and I'm based in Virginia. I believe that anyone can benefit from therapy. Ultimately, the most important part of the therapy process is the relationship between the therapist and the client. I create and foster a collaborative, warm, and comfortable environment where my clients can relax and explore what brought them in for therapy. I see my role as a therapist is to give clients the space to navigate life's stressors, reprocess distressing experiences, and increase self-awareness.
My approach
I approach therapy with an open mind, addressing the whole person by using styles of treatment fitting each client's individual needs. I utilize interventions from the following approaches to therapy as well as others: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. I provide trauma-informed care, advocate for women's mental health, and align with the principles of body acceptance and Health At Every Size (HAES).
My focus
I am passionate about advocating for people who are marginalized and I love and appreciate diversity. I love building relationships with my clients from all walks of life. I strongly believe that trust, communication, shared humanity, and authenticity are fundamental to the therapeutic relationship. I work with diverse populations. I love to come alongside and assist my clients seeking help with areas such as life transitions, stress management, anxiety disorders, depression, relationship or intimacy-related issues, LGBTQIA+ support, trauma, women's issues, grief support, disabilities, and family issues.
My communication style
Building a therapeutic relationship is important to me, therefore I take a relational approach with my clients. I am calm, laid back, and attuned to my clients and what they need.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is client centered in that I'm interested in knowing what goals you have for our time together and for us to collaborative decide what that will look like.
My first session with you
In our first session, you can expect that we will be getting to know each other and starting to build that relationship. I'll provide expectations for our time together and will also want to hear what expectations you have for me. This will involve my asking some questions to inform the rest of our time working together.
