My name is Erin Shaffer, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Dublin, VA. I work with clients statewide, providing telehealth counseling services. I primarily work with adults and specialize in trauma, grief, depression, and anxiety. I utilize a generalist approach that encompasses several treatment modalities to make progress and start to feel better.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies on the needs of each client. I most frequently utilize techniques informed by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Mindfulness-based treatments. I utilized a Strengths-Based, Person-Centered approach to ensure each individual feels valued while working towards goals that are specific to their need.
My focus
I have found that my style and approach are most effective with adults when utilizing telehealth services to individuals who might be working to manage trauma and grief reactions as well as symptoms of depression and anxiety. I have also worked with individuals who are working to build their self-esteem and confidence or navigate challenging relationships. I work with my clients to help them understand their symptoms and reactions and to learn new ways to move forward in a positive and healthy way.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, empathetic, and personable. I work to be as accommodating as possible and offer a nonjudgmental environment to ensure each individual feels comfortable as they begin this journey.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became a therapist as I have always wanted to help people and provide needed support. This type of social work allows me to see individuals become the best version of themselves in order to find fulfillment in life.
My goals for you
We will work together to determine treatment goals to ensure we are focusing on areas of growth that are important to you. We are partners in the process, and I welcome feedback related to our sessions to ensure your needs and expectations are being met.
My first session with you
During our first session together, we will spend the majority of the time discussing how you are currently feeling and what led you to counseling. I will also ask you questions related to your background and family history to further understand experiences that may be a contributing factor to how you feel now. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions related to counseling.
