Hi! My name is Tara Bowles, and I am a licensed clinical social worker in Richmond, VA. I have been in the social work field for over 20 years and have 10+ years of counseling experience working with kids, teens, adults, and families.
My approach
My therapeutic interventions include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and strength-based therapy. I utilize modalities such as Mindfulness-Based, Person-Centered, Positive Psychology, and Internal Family Systems (IFS).

I specialize in helping individuals and couples with issues related to Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Coping Skills, Depression, Relationship Issues, Self Esteem, Stress, Trauma and PTSD.

I communicate with empathy, directness, and a focus on your strengths and goals. My style draws from CBT, ACT, and motivational interviewing to help you gain insight and make positive changes. I'm an active listener who offers honest yet compassionate feedback to guide you on your journey.
My journey to mental healthcare
I am originally from California, where I received my undergraduate degree from San Francisco State University after serving three years on active duty in the Army. I later received my master's degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University. From 06/2006-04/2010, I completed my clinical hours for licensure at Slabaugh and Associates in Richmond, VA.
