Hello! My name is Amanda Hawkins, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I love working with people and helping my clients reach their goals. I start by engaging my clients in an assessment that helps me understand what is currently impacting their lives. I specialize in working with individuals and families struggling with anxiety, depression, family changes, divorce, mood disorders, stress, and trauma.
My approach
I mostly engage my clients in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is an evidence-based approach. To summarize this approach, it involves looking at how your daily thoughts impact your life and learning new ways to think and react. I believe in focusing on my client's strengths and building upon them.
My focus
I enjoy working with teenagers and adults. I have extensive experience working with clients struggling with depression and anxiety related to family changes, divorce, stress, and trauma.
My communication style
I try to create a comfortable environment for my clients. I want my clients to be able to share freely without feeling like they are being judged. You are welcome here, imperfections and all!
My journey to mental healthcare
From a young age, I always knew I wanted to work with people. I was drawn to the field of Social Work because I felt like this would be a perfect fit for me. After my first internship in Foster Care, I knew I had made the right choice. I worked for Social Services for 5 years and then decided I wanted to work more directly with clients on issues they were struggling with. I am very passionate about what I do and want to see my clients succeed. You are never alone!
My goals for you
I work directly with my clients to determine what things they want to work on in therapy.
My first session with you
During my first session, I gather a lot of background information on my clients in order to gain a better understanding of their lives and struggles. We all have unique stories, and I want to hear yours!
