My name is Megan Wills and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LSCW) and certified trauma therapist working with clients statewide via telehealth. I primarily work with women and specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma responses, relationship challenges, and life transitions. I am certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and also use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, as well as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to help clients gain specific skills and make tangible progress.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with. I most frequently use Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I also strongly believe in the right to self-determination. I bring my skillset, lived and professional experience, training, and years of study and work with clients, but you are the expert on you. Based on what we both bring to the table, you ultimately choose your path forward.
My focus
I work best with women (18 - 45), specifically those who may have experienced and been exposed to high stressors or a history of trauma. I also have a background of working with families and children who have been victims of crime, so I am familiar with the wide impact of those circumstances. My current focus is to help clients learn and gain mastery over coping skills, identify a sense of self, rewire thought patterns and behaviors, and generally feel empowered and equipped to manage current or past stressors to live their healthiest and most whole lives.
My communication style
In the past when I have received feedback from clients, I have always been told they feel I am authentic. My clients know I care about them. My tone is comfortable, relaxed, genuine, and kind.
My journey to mental healthcare
I always wanted to help people. After having experience in social services with the legal system, I realized that the greatest healing lies within you and your ability to gain access to the right tools, knowledge, and support to move forward. I have seen incredible healing happen when clients choose to take the step forward with the right provider, and I love journeying with my clients toward their healthiest selves.
My goals for you
I like to start our therapeutic process by building trust and healthy rapport. I am very open to discussing if we are a good fit for each other and accomplishing the goals you have for therapy. I like to brainstorm one goal to start, knowing this may evolve and expand as we continue to work together.
My first session with you
During our first session, you can expect I will review what confidentiality means, as trust is the most important part of a therapeutic relationship. I always prefer to learn about what brings you to therapy, your history, and experience with mental health treatment, what has worked for you in the past and what hasn't. However, I also want to allow you to ask any questions you may have. This is your therapy, and we are brand new to each other, so it is okay if it takes time to understand what is best for you.
