Hi there, I'm Donna!

Donna Allen, LMFT As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I work with adult individuals and couples, in a holistic and systems-oriented way. Together we'll explore the elements of your life that are stressors as well as supports and use that information to help you achieve your goals.

My approach

I incorporate many therapeutic approaches in my work, such as mindfulness, eastern philosophy, elements of CBT, reiki energy support, creative arts expression, IFS (internal family systems therapy), elements of Gottman therapy, and the philosophy of non-violent communication, utilizing whichever components are most helpful in supporting your particular therapeutic journey.

My focus

My clients include adults aged 18 and older, who are experiencing anxiety, depression, life changes, relationship issues, infidelity, difficult family dynamics, neurodiversity, stress management, depleted resources, grief and loss, and difficulties with self-worth and self-esteem who want to make positive shifts and grow toward their best selves.

My communication style

I try to create a warm, welcoming environment that you will feel supported in. We work together to develop a trusting relationship with empathy, humor, and respect in which we can safely lean into your growing edges. And as an added bonus, you will get to meet my dog, Bella, online. She is a scruffy, sweet, and sassy terrier mix who will likely be in the background sleeping during our sessions :)

My journey to mental healthcare

After a particularly challenging time in my life following a divorce many years ago, I reached out to a therapist for support. Not only was it a transformative and healing experience for me, but it also inspired me to change careers from one that felt somewhat empty and meaningless to me at the time, to one that could have a profound positive impact on people's lives. It was then that I went back to school to become a marriage and family therapist and I've never regretted it since.

My goals for you

In our first session, we will collaborate to identify your main goals for our time together, and periodically thereafter we'll check in to celebrate progress and identify any challenges or roadblocks. We may also change or add new goals as we go along.

My first session with you

In our first session, I like to get to know about you and understand your reasons for coming to therapy right now. I'll also answer any questions you may have for me about my background, style of working, and so on. At that point, we'll distill all of that information into clearly defined goals for therapy, giving us a road map for our future sessions together.
