My name is Dan Crosby and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. My style of therapy is client driven and more of a partnership focusing on helping you reach your goals. I have extensive experience and training with the treatment of trauma, depression, anxiety, and a multitude of other diagnoses which I will use to tailor your specific treatment to your needs and goals.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is mainly from a cognitive behavioral therapy foundation with attachment theory and object relations mixed in. I am trained and certified in trauma-focused therapy. I do realize that every person is different and not all therapeutic theories are a good fit which is why I tailor my therapeutic approach to the specific person once we get to know each other.
My focus
I have been working in the field for over 15 years with a variety of clientele ranging from kids, adolescents, and adults. I have worked with a vast variety of diagnoses, trauma histories, life changes, and other stressors that a person may be going through. There really aren't a whole lot of things that I haven't seen or worked with which makes me feel comfortable treating your specific concerns.
My communication style
My communication style comes from a foundation of being authentic and genuinely caring for my clients. I can be nurturing and, when needed, direct. I will encourage my clients to communicate in a way that makes them feel comfortable and true to themselves by providing an environment that is judgment-free. My ultimate goal is to communicate with respect and use the other half of communication, listening, to help you reach your goals.
My journey to mental healthcare
Before I even knew what therapy or mental health was as a young child, I had a natural ability for being able to read and understand people. I was always aware of people's patterns, the way they looked at the world, their behaviors, and their feelings. Eventually, I took a psychology class in high school and was hooked. I realized that I could use that natural ability to help others. This may not be the highest-paying job in the world, but there is nothing more rewarding than helping a person through tough times and seeing them thriving.
My goals for you
Goal setting should be client driven. You took the steps to come to me for help so it is my job to listen to and acknowledge your voice. As we partner up in achieving your goal, it will be my job to help with strategies that are realistic, doable, and tailored to your specific needs.
My first session with you
Our first session will be a mixture of gathering information about what brings you to therapy and getting to know each other. One of the most important aspects of healing is feeling comfortable with your therapist and making sure that we are a good fit for each other. I'm a big believer in earning your respect and trust rather than assuming it is already there just because of my position.
