Hi there, I'm Lauren!

Lauren Aiken LMFT 127252. For the past 15 years, have been supporting expectant parents in the transition to parenthood. Through issues with fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum care, I have worked closely with women facing life changes. More recently I have been focusing on therapeutic specialties in broader women's health issues while working in the OBGYN department of a hospital. There I have led groups for new parents and for women in perimenopause and menopause transitions. I have my Masters Degree in Psychology from The Wright Institute. I am currently a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist working with women and families to address anxiety, depression, life transitions, traumas, parent coaching, and relational issues throughout one's lifetime.

My approach

Everyone has the innate tools to heal, repair, and thrive. In times of stress and chaos, therapy can restore and sustain us. Balance our mental ecology. Discover our pockets of joy. Find closure. Shape our path. Together, we can develop a process that honors you and your community. Your relationship with yourself and others is an unfolding process of discovery. As a therapist, I am committed to finding a path forward that works for you. I focus on grounding, compassion, connection, and humor as central parts of therapy. My practice uses an ecological approach to counseling. An ecological approach looks at how mental health and well-being are impacted by our social, community, and natural landscapes. What healing can we derive from our environment? How are anxiety and depression in dialogue with greater societal structures? I specifically utilize behavior techniques, Psychodynamic, Mindfulness, Somatic, and Attachment-Based therapies.

My focus

I enjoy working with expectant parents in the transition to parenthood through issues with fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum care including parent coaching around child development, sleep, and behavior. I aim to work with women in all stages of life facing transitions and women's health issues from infancy to parenthood, youth transitions, and women in perimenopause and menopause. My work with women to support all sorts of challenges including anxiety, depression, trauma, relational issues, grief, rage, hormone changes, and fertility.

My communication style

Adjusting to life’s changes can make us feel confused and uncertain, lost or alone. We can work together to unpack how transitions are impacting your life. I work with people around grief, loss, marriage, trauma, perimenopause and menopause, and new parenthood. An ecological approach looks at how mental health and well-being are impacted by our social, community, and natural landscapes. What healing can we derive from our environment? How are anxiety and depression in dialogue with greater societal structures? Oppression impacts our emotional health. Healing-informed care investigates how trans-generational and historical trauma affects your present reality. We will use your cultural and experiential stories to shape your innate capacity to heal and cope. I also use behavioral techniques to help ground and relieve the immediate symptoms affecting your everyday enjoyment of life.

My journey to mental healthcare

I began working with families as a Certified Lactation Consultant ( a license I no longer hold) and as a pediatric Sleep Consultant using behavior techniques to support change across developmental milestones. I got a Master's Degree in Psychology from The Wright Institute, focusing on the study of attachment in infants 0-3 years old, to further my knowledge and ability to work with young children and their families. This led me to work with women in all stages of life and change.

My goals for you

Together we will identify goals you have for your everyday experience and long-term life. I will learn about your life experience to inform how you view the world and identify patterns that show up for you to think about changes and practices that can relieve your difficulties and create space for new positive experiences.

My first session with you

In our first session, I will begin to learn more about you and your history to know what informs the reasons you are seeking change and support. We will also begin to utilize grounding techniques to bring about relief from immediate symptoms.
