Hello. My name is Nancy Hirst. I have been a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist working in private practice and public behavioral health for over 25 years. I find it a privilege to come alongside people as they explore life challenges and make the behavioral changes they desire for their lives. I approach therapy from a systems theory dynamic, which means I explore relationships and how they impact you. I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) along with other approaches to help you become the best you can be.
My approach
In therapy, I use a client-centered and strength-based approach, which means I build upon your strengths. It is my desire to create a relationship where you feel safe to explore challenging areas of your life.
My focus
I love working with all people who are struggling with life issues, in supporting them to reach their goals. I have vast experience in working with depression, anxiety, anger management, family dynamics, substance use disorder, and mental health. I love working with women‚ issues, trauma, domestic violence, grief and loss, codependency, and life changes. I enjoy working with older adults. If you are looking for a Christian therapist, we would be a good match. I am a committed Christian with a strong knowledge of theology and Biblical Studies.
My communication style
I work hard at building rapport with my clients where they feel understood, accepted, and valued. Past clients have reported to me that they appreciate my calm, caring, and supportive manner. I pride myself on being culturally sensitive to people from all walks of life.
My journey to mental healthcare
In my 25 years of working in various areas of mental health, the part I have enjoyed the most is coming alongside clients to help them make the changes that they desire. I feel privileged to be allowed into delicate areas of people's lives, and to support them as they overcome obstacles that have been complex for them for a long time.
My goals for you
I believe it is my job as a therapist to help you accomplish your goals for therapy. We will work together at the beginning to help you understand yourself and your circumstances more clearly. We will then work on the goals that you have decided are most important. Through the process, you will be supported and challenged to explore yourself and become the best that you can be.
My first session with you
During the first session, we will spend time getting to know each other. I believe the most important part of therapy is building a trusting and comfortable relationship, where you feel safe to explore the areas of your life that sometimes may be difficult. During the first session, I will ask a lot of questions to assess your needs, history, and what you want to accomplish in our time together.
