My name is Jennifer Rafeedie. I have been a licensed clinical psychologist for over 20 years. I have expertise in conducting in-depth short- and long-term psychotherapy with adults, couples, and families to help them overcome barriers related to trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, parenting struggles, and the challenges of young adults and empty nests. My goal in therapy is not only to help my clients gain a sense of relief from their difficulties but also to gain fresh new perspectives that help them move beyond what they had hoped for. I am solution-focused and aim to help my clients graduate from therapy as soon as possible.
My approach
With positive psychology as a backdrop, I use an integrative approach to psychotherapy implementing aspects of psychodynamic, humanistic, and cognitive-behavioral approaches with the goal of increasing self-awareness, encouraging readiness for change, and collaboratively creating an action plan for change. My background in sports psychology influences my work in that I encourage my clients to realize their full potential.
My focus
I typically work with clients from a range of ages and backgrounds and with a range of life concerns. What my clients have in common are experiences, both childhood and adult, that hold them back in some way from living the lives they want to live. My clients have included young adults, older adults, couples, parents, and families. I have expertise in trauma, addiction, relationships, divorce, depression, and anxiety.
My communication style
My communication style is warm and empathic. In the context of a supportive environment, I communicate in ways that are direct and kind. My goal is to create safety while also challenging my clients to grow in the ways that they wish to grow.
My journey to mental healthcare
I would not ask a client to go down the difficult road of change unless I myself have done the same. My drive in doing this work is to inspire, encourage and illuminate new paths and perspectives that create personal transformation.
My goals for you
Goal-setting in therapy is a collaborative process between therapist and client. Clients have different levels of readiness for change when they enter therapy. Therapy is individualized to go at a client's pace and comfort level, and their willingness to invite challenges that will help them grow. Clients own their own lives, thus they must be the author of their goals.
My first session with you
The first session is a time when the client and therapist begin a discussion about what the client is seeking, and what the therapist is able to provide. It involves a description of the therapeutic process. It is a time for the client and therapist to determine if they will be a good fit. There is no pressure or judgment.
