Hello, my name is Angela Hernandez and I am an LCSW with experience with 8-25-year-olds focusing on behavioral issues, anxiety, self-harming behaviors, and stress. Being able to focus on strengths and starting where the client is at is fundamental for therapeutic success.
My approach
I am a very forward therapist who believes in being real with my clients helps to build rapport and trust in our relationship. My heart is with children and young adults to see them work on change to help them in their adult lives. I am big on CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, and SFT.
My focus
My typical client is between the age of 8-25 and I am the most comfortable with working on issues of stress, anxiety, behavioral issues, and self-harming behaviors. Motivational interviewing is something I use often to help clients through the stages of change. I am comfortable with a strength-based approach to change.
My communication style
I will say I am very blunt and forward in my approach. I definitely like to build a positive rapport with my clients and I feel this approach helps with the age group that I usually work with. Adolescents and young adults tend to appreciate honesty and forwardness to build therapeutic trust and are more willing to work on positive change.
My journey to mental healthcare
Being able to see change in a person who was struggling or not in a good place is so fulfilling and it continues to keep me doing what I am doing in my career. Being able to be an outlet for someone is a blessing and I am privileged to be part of their journey.
My goals for you
I start where the client is when it comes to goal setting. It is a case-by-case basis on how we work on goals and change in treatment.
My first session with you
My first sessions are very light and are focused on getting to know each other and building some type of rapport and trust between me and my clients. A first session usually consists of finding some commonality and looking at things we want to work on in treatment.
