Hi there, I'm Miriam!

Hi there, My name is Miriam Barton and I am a bilingual English and Spanish Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist residing in beautiful San Diego, California. I have been in the mental health field for over 10 years and have worked with clients from diverse backgrounds. I feel that it is a privilege to work alongside our clients helping them as they navigate through life's challenges. As your therapist, I strive to create a safe and nurturing environment where you can work toward healing. I work with children, adolescents, and adults who are struggling with day-to-day life stressors, relationship distress, or interpersonal conflicts utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy, and Family Systems model.

My approach

My therapeutic approach is individualized to my client's needs. I approach therapy utilizing an eclectic approach using various modalities and tools to help meet my client's needs.

My focus

I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for youth and adults who may be dealing with trauma, attachment, interpersonal relationship issues, anxiety, depression, and stress. I work collaboratively with my client as they navigate these difficult times while building skills to allow them to reach their full potential.

My communication style

My communication style is nurturing, honest, and gentle. Therapy can be difficult and my hope is to create a trusting environment that can facilitate opportunities for growth and change.

My journey to mental healthcare

My journey to becoming a therapist began at an early age. I was always highly motivated and interested in helping others. From a young age, I knew the helping profession would be in my future. I have always enjoyed opportunities where you are able to help empower others.

My goals for you

My approach to goal setting is a collaborative effort.

My first session with you

What you can expect from our first session together is for us to spend the majority of our time talking about you. I would like to get to know you and understand what life circumstances brought you to therapy today. I would likely ask questions to better understand how you are feeling and build an initial connection with you.
