My name is Kristen and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Southern California, working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults and specialize in depression, anxiety, and complex trauma. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution Focused Therapy to help my clients navigate the hardships of day-to-day life.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client. I most frequently use CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution Focused Therapy, as these modalities help me and the client build a shared understanding of their reality and allow us to build a way forward
My focus
My approach and style is a good fit for adults who may be experiencing challenges navigating their day-to-day life. These challenges may take the form of depression or anxiety. I work with clients to help build adaptive skills to feel better about themselves and their perspective on life.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, authentic, and personable. I want my clients to, first and foremost, feel safe and comfortable talking with me about anything. I understand that building a relationship takes time and is the most important task in having successful sessions
My journey to mental healthcare
I always knew working with people was my calling. My career is rooted in foster care. Through my time working at the county and then at a state level, I saw that there were much deeper-rooted issues that drew me to becoming a therapist. I have worked in many different settings, from schools, courts, and community mental health. I enjoy seeing progress and love with clients have "light bulb" moments.
My goals for you
Goal setting with clients is based on collaboration and mutuality. This starts by building trust and getting comfortable. It is important to be realistic and flexible because life just happens. Goals will ebb and flow, and that is okay!
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session together after the initial assessment is building our therapeutic relationship. We will talk about how you've been feeling recently and what skills you may have already developed. The first session is about us building an initial connection and helping. I have an understanding of where we should go from there. Whether you are seasoned in therapy, or it is your first time, patience and allowing yourself grace are key.
