My name is Selene Chagoya and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Long Beach, California. I am currently working with clients via telehealth. I specialized in working with adults who are experiencing or have been diagnosed with the following diagnosis; Anxiety, Depression, OCD, Bipolar, PTSD, Substance Use, Schizophrenia Spectrum, and Other Psychotic Disorders. As well as other issues associated with Anger Management, Domestic Violence, DCFS involvement, Education and Occupational Problems, Economic Problems, Men's issues, and Women's issues
My approach
The main modality I used in therapy is Cognitive Behavior Therapy. However, my approach may be borrowed from many different modalities depending on my clients' needs such as Mindfulness, Solution focus, Attachment Theory, Schema Therapy, Psychotherapy, and others.
My focus
Typically I see adults who are faced with symptoms of Anxiety, Depression, OCD, Co-dependency, and Trauma. However, in the past, I have worked with people who are experiencing more severe mental health symptoms.
My communication style
I always strive to convey a feeling of understanding, empathy, and compassion. At the same time, I am open to working through the shadow self of our personality and challenging my clients when appropriate to reach their highest potential.
My journey to mental healthcare
I currently view myself as "the wounded healer" archetype described by Carl Jung. All of my personal struggles have allowed me to understand human dynamics and the pathway to feeling whole again. I believe we all have the ability to heal ourselves with guidance, patience, and understanding.
My first session with you
During our first session. We would go over the reasons you are in therapy, complete assessments to get a baseline, and work on creating goals for therapy.
