My name is Roxana Tejada-Joya. I have been a therapist for 16 years. I am biracial, Latina, a woman of color, and an immigrant from South America. I have worked with trauma survivors from different backgrounds, ages, races, incomes, languages, LGBTQ, war victims, the homeless, people with schizophrenia, bipolar, refugees, and individuals of several other countries and belief systems.
My approach
I am trained in evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, Trauma Focused CBT, Motivational interviewing, and Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT) with individuals, couples, and families. I am a Faculty at a Family Residency Program where I train primary care doctors about culture-trauma-informed treatment. I received my Master of Arts in Psychology from JFK University in 2009 and have been licensed since 2013.
My focus
I have several years of experience working with individuals and families experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, life transitions, relational challenges, and loss.
My communication style
I have learned that an "Eternal Curiosity" is the most helpful tool to serve our clients effectively. I've also known that clients of different cultures and countries appreciate having a clinician ask for their experience. "Their way to see the world."
