My name is Kelly Ybarra, LMHC, LPCC; I am licensed to practice in the states of California and Florida. My focus is ensuring the client is empowered to navigate through the many stressors that come with life and to be a support to them along the way. My heart and passion is to create a safe space for a person to have full autonomy to create the life they find fulfilling, whether that includes navigating the future, healing from the past, and/or embracing the present.
My approach
I take on a Person-Centered approach to therapy, implementing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques, Motivational Interviewing, and EMDR as it fits your needs.
My focus
Most of my experience comes from working with individuals presenting with significant stressors, anxiety, life transitions, and various trauma histories.
My communication style
Personal autonomy drives the session. I believe in meeting someone where they are and building upon the strengths already within them. My role is to support and provide them with the skills they need to lead their life successfully.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was drawn to the counseling field because of the freedom the client has to heal, process, and change.
My goals for you
I usually ask someone what in their life they want to see differently, and in what way. From there, we establish goals. It is helpful at this stage to also identify what barriers have kept someone from obtaining this goal so that we can look at the whole picture.
My first session with you
During our first session, confidentiality will be addressed, and completing an assessment to determine the next best steps for treatment. I also like to ask the person whether they have sought therapy in the past. If so, I like to assess what they did/did not like about the process to ensure this is a supportive experience for them.
