I am Judi Bucholtz and I am a PhD. and a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I work with children, adolescents, and adults. As a practical, interactive, interpersonal, and insight-oriented therapist, my treatment approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients resolve current problems and long-standing patterns. With sensitivity and compassion, I help clients find solutions to a wide range of life challenges and psychological issues.
My approach
Blending conventional and alternative approaches, I draw on a variety of styles and techniques to incorporate what will be most helpful for each client. I work with each client to help them build on their strengths to identify and achieve life goals. Generally, I use psychodynamic and CBT.
My focus
Providing individual, couples, and family counseling. Treatment specialization includes: Depression and Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Child and Teen Issues, Parenting and Family Issues, Relationship Problems, Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Grief and Loss, Work and Career issues, Stress Management, Conflict Resolution, Trauma
My communication style
I try to create a trustworthy, dependable, and safe environment. It takes courage to be willing to face what is not working in your life. I can offer support and guidance during current stress or in facing long-term problems. You don't have to struggle alone.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was an elementary teacher for over 15 years. Through that experience I found that I had or "adopted" the children who gave other teachers a hard time. I took these children into my classroom and did something that made them less "bothersome." This gave me the hope that becoming a therapist would be similar to that other experience.
My goals for you
Change is difficult. Ultimately, it is the client who achieves the change, not the therapist. For this reason, I balance compassion and respect with a goal-oriented, collaborative approach that helps clients decide how--and when-- to change.
My first session with you
The first session is meeting and getting to know what it is that is difficult for you. Some periods in life are more difficult than others. It's normal to struggle during those times. Every person's process of coping and growth is unique. My challenge is to respect you and understand your present challenges and then work together to help you achieve your goals.
