I am David Joel Miller, licensed in California as a Marriage And Family Therapist #45390 and as a Professional Clinical Counselor #15. I work with clients to overcome the problems of living and create the best life possible regardless of the circumstances they find themselves in. I emphasize overcoming anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, achieving work-life balance, and eventually dealing with the challenges of aging.
My approach
I work with clients utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy, solution-focused therapy, and positive psychology to overcome problems and create the best life possible.
My focus
My primary focus is working with adult clients to achieve emotional balance, overcome anxiety, depression, or substance misuse, cope with work stress, and balance relationships and family responsibilities. I emphasize creating a satisfying life of meaning and purpose and dealing with the changes that come as we each move through the various stages of life.
My communication style
My communication style involves a balance between listening to the client to understand them and providing them with information and techniques that might help them overcome their issues. I often recommend books, articles, and videos which might be helpful.
My goals for you
Goals are set collaboratively.
My first session with you
There are two primary things I ask clients in the first session. What brought them to counseling? How were they hoping that the process of working with me might help them? Part of our time in the first session will be spent getting all the basic information about you and creating a plan for our work together.
