Hello! My name is Alyssa Alonzo, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Los Angeles, CA. My pronouns are she/her/hers and I identify as Mexican-American. I am committed to working through a trauma-informed, culturally attuned lens, and taking an eclectic approach to my interventions and case conceptualization.
My approach
I am certified in Individual Cognitive Behavioral Therapy but also implement attachment-based and solution-focused modalities. My approach is tailored to each individual client, drawing from evidence-based practices to best address their unique needs and goals.
My focus
I have experience working with children, teens, and adults to treat various presenting problems and issues, including depression, anxiety, and trauma. I specialize in working with survivors of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), which can involve physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. I also have extensive training and experience working with the LBGTQIA+ population.
My communication style
I believe in creating a warm, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard and supported. Collaboration and open communication are key in my work with clients. I aim to empower clients with the tools and insights they need to overcome challenges and create positive change.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have spent most of my career working in community mental health, with trainee hours from March 2014 to May 2015 at The Salvation Army The Way In, OPCC, and The Peacock Foundation. I completed intern/associate hours from November 2015 to February 2020 at Los Angeles Child Guidance Clinic (now "Wellnest"), Paradigm Malibu, and Star View Community Services. This diverse experience solidified my passion for helping others navigate life's challenges.
My goals for you
My goal is to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and build fulfilling relationships. Whether you're facing a specific issue or looking for personal growth, I'm here to support you on your journey towards greater well-being and resilience.
My first session with you
In our first session, we'll discuss what brings you to therapy and collaborate on a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs and goals. I'll take time to understand your background, strengths, and challenges, creating a safe space for you to share your story. My therapy dog Layla might even make an appearance in our video session to provide some extra comfort and support!
