Hi, My name is Mayra Torres and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Long Beach, California, and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults and specialize in providing culturally sensitive therapy in areas of anxiety, depression, stress, grief, and life transitions, using a tailored approach to meet clients' needs and help achieve a sense of balance and well-being.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with. I most frequently use Mindful Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Problem Solving Therapy, and Psychodynamic approach to allow us to work together to chart a path forward.
My focus
I work with adults who may be dealing with the challenges of life transitions, social pressures, and relationship challenges. This often takes the form of anxiety, depression, and stress. I work to help my clients navigate these difficult periods and develop coping skills that can provide a renewed sense of strength and balance.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, accommodating, and personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything, and I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment and compassion.
My journey to mental healthcare
Becoming a therapist came naturally to me. Since my teens, I've always provided a safe space for others to share their thoughts and feelings. As a first-generation immigrant and navigating my own path, I realized a great need for culturally sensitive therapy and culturally diverse therapists in our community. Therefore my choice to become a therapist came easily. I always have had a passion for helping those who are going through difficult times. I enjoy seeing individuals overcome challenges and achieve happiness in their lives.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together to identify what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us. I see myself as a guide that can help you reach the goals that you would like to accomplish to feel a greater sense of satisfaction in your life.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session together is for us to spend the majority of our time talking about how you have been feeling recently, with me asking questions to better understand your experience and factors that could be contributing to your distress. The first session is about us building an initial connection and exploring treatment options that would work best for you moving forward.
