Erica Sylvia Mitchell, LCSW provides compassionate therapy with cultural humility to build therapeutic alliances with adults experiencing PTSD, CPTSD, anxiety, life transitions, and grief. Erica takes an integrative approach, utilizing EMDR informed by ego state therapy and incorporating mindfulness, somatic practices, and polyvagal theory.
My approach
Therapeutic sessions are held in a virtual space for you to express and focus on your whole person: mind, body, soul, and spirit. I will help you shift your narrative and heal through the therapeutic modality of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) informed by other therapeutic modalities, ego states therapy, polyvagal theory, somatic techniques, and a humanistic approach.
My focus
Are you struggling with trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, or life transitions? Is your body storing pain and trauma? Are you questioning your purpose, career, or relationships? Are you searching for balance? Are work or family obligations stressing you out? Are you feeling disorganized or are your criticizing thoughts getting in your way? Have you held onto a dysfunctional narrative of who you are? Do you have a strong desire and willingness to heal and discover what is holding you back? I embrace various therapeutic interventions. In a sensitive and direct way, I will nudge you to find the courage to take charge of your life. If you are feeling the nudge, reach out and let us discuss your needs and if we are a fit for each other. At your first session, we will complete a mental health assessment and treatment plan together and determine your therapy schedule.
My communication style
I am empowering and compassionate. It is privilege to hold space for my clients, where they feel free to be their authentic self. Within each session, there are various areas we may explore, including maladaptive responses, trauma, values and beliefs, self-limiting beliefs, parts of self, strengths and resources, self-love, cognitive distortions, attachment, and communication. I will invite you to explore a variety of resourcing techniques to build upon your adaptive skills.
My journey to mental healthcare
In 2020, similarly to many, my personal and professional perspectives shifted, and I began my journey of self-discovery. I began living a joyful life and recognized the fear of being with my thoughts and feelings. There was greatness awaiting me. With courage, permission to love myself, and a clear vision, it was time to fill in the in-between to reach my desired path. I have a love for travel, exploration, and freedom while enjoying quiet moments alone with a good cup of coffee and my journal. My specialties are lived experiences backed by evidence-based training in the field of social work and clinical psychotherapy. It is through empathy and compassion that I decided to provide the world with my gifts by building therapeutic alliances with clients and showing acts of kindness.
My goals for you
Goal setting is an ongoing process that starts with the initial assessment and treatment plan. At pivotal times during treatment we will review and update goals.
My first session with you
At the first session we will discuss your needs and wants for therapy, my approach to therapy, complete an initial assessment and treatment plan together, determine match, and schedule future sessions.
