Hi there, I'm Léah!

Hello! My name is Léah Ferreira and I am a marriage and family therapist licensed in both California and Oregon. I help clients who are coping with OCD, PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I've been working with clients for 5 years and am here to help.

My approach

My approach to therapy is eclectic and based on the needs of each client. I primarily use narrative therapy with solution-focused mixed in when needed because a client's experiences can be seen as a story in which the ending is not yet finished and working together with the client, they can write or rewrite the ending as the client desires. I also utilize mindfulness, guided imagery, and motivational interviewing.

My focus

I have found that my therapeutic style matches well with teens and adults of all ages but mostly ages 18-55. These clients may be dealing with the challenges that come with life transitions - new school, new job, moving to a new place, or just life transitions. These challenges can often present as anxiety, depression, or even an eating disorder. I also work well with clients who have experienced childhood trauma or have complex PTSD. I work with my clients to supply their coping skills toolbox in order to safely and effectively manage their symptoms and guide the client to feel better about their ability to cope with the stress of life.

My communication style

My communication style is a combination of calming and engaging. I strive to provide an environment, even virtually, where my clients can feel comfortable discussing the issues that are plaguing them. I also aim for an environment that is safe and without judgment.

My journey to mental healthcare

When I was in high school, my counselor quite literally saved my life. I have always wanted to give back in her honor. I originally became a teacher with the goal of moving over to the counselor position but it never came to fruition. I retired as a college professor and became a therapist. Being able to be a part of a client's transition to a healthier version of themselves is the best kind of motivation to continue doing the work that I do. I love being a therapist.

My goals for you

My approach to goal setting is always a team effort. I discuss what the client would like to accomplish and together, we create manageable and attainable goals. I also remind clients that their goals are my goals. They are the expert of their lives.

My first session with you

During an initial session, a client can expect patience, acceptance, a judgment-free zone, and the first step into a safe environment where they can feel comfortable disclosing how they have been feeling as of late, the methods in which they have attempted to cope with those emotions, and time to get to know their therapist. Clients are always free to ask questions about how therapy works or how we can work together toward their goals. I pride myself on seeing each client as an individual who has been courageous to come to therapy. Each client is different; however, I tell each and every one of them that I am proud of them for taking the first step in their healing.
