Welcome to Path! I am Irma Gonzalez, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 16 years of psychotherapy experience. I look forward to the opportunity to make a connection with you and to join you on this journey. I use a holistic approach to influence the outcomes of therapeutic goals.
My approach
I integrate a diversity of modalities that include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Guided Imagery, and Mindfulness to access calmer states, improve the dynamics in relationships, and resolve/improve symptoms related to anxiety, depression, PTSD, emotional dysregulation, and stress management.
My focus
I have treated individuals that included minors and adults of diverse ages, families, and couples. I feel comfortable in treating relational dynamics that include parenting and co-parenting issues, anxiety and mood disorders, trauma and stressor-related disorders, and substance use disorders as an adjunct resource while in the recovery process.
My communication style
Authenticity, compassion, presence, and non-judgment are essential in establishing a meaningful connection. Based on a former client's feedback, it feels safe, encouraging, and welcoming to work with me.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have experienced and witnessed suffering with the rest of humankind. By contrast, I also experience joy, peace, and love. I think that all can have access to the latter. During my volunteer services with youth programs for many years, while raising my family, I discovered an interest in pursuing a degree that would enable me to collaborate with others to develop their skills and insights to improve their quality of life.
My goals for you
Collaboration and active participation from clients is encouraged to establish intentions for goal setting. The Initial stage of therapy includes identifying clients' objectives of therapy, current abilities, and challenges, and learning about their lifestyle and paradigm.
My first session with you
Clients can expect a warm and welcoming and non-judgmental environment to tell their stories. Clients will receive disclosures about protocol, agency polices regarding missed appointments/no-shows, what to expect in the therapeutic process, be given an opportunity to ask questions, and typically experience a brief progressive relaxation exercise at some time in the session.
