Hi! My name is Rowena Fernandez, I have been a practicing LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) for over 2 decades in California. I believe in overall wellness so my approach to therapy is client/solution-focused, psychoeducational, and preventative while working with adults/older adults with anxiety, mood, and adjustment disorders. I think that everyone motivated by change is equipped to take a different path for a healthier lifestyle.
My approach
Just like everyone has a different learning style, my therapeutic approach is individually tailored to your current needs; depending on the dynamics of specific barriers presented. I do tend to utilize Solution-focused, Mindfulness, and Cognitive Behavioral approaches.
My focus
My usual client profile is individual adults/older adults who may be dealing with anxiety, mood, and adjustment disorders (i.e., stress with life transitions). I also enjoy empowering/educating families with loved ones diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness.
My communication style
My sessions are typically relaxed and flexible; I would describe them as "living room" conversations balanced with mutual respect while actively creating a wellness plan.
My journey to mental healthcare
Helping others has always been a core value in my family. Turns out, I actually like it, and has been an integral part of my life over the years assisting families through N.A.M.I. (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill), volunteering at local churches, and homeless shelters and have dedicated my career to various behavioral health programs.
My goals for you
Goal setting with my clients is done collaboratively after a thorough psychosocial evaluation. We will then identify and define workable goals for treatment.
My first session with you
During our first session, clients can expect active listening while I explore your decision to seek help. I hope to establish a therapeutic alliance built on trust and begin a wellness journey together. We will likely end our session with therapeutic parameters to ensure best clinical practice and outcome.
