My name is Stella Petros. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Los Angeles, California. I have been in practice since 2005, and I specialize in working with adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, life transitions, grief, trauma, and related issues. I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic, and solution-focused therapy approaches in treatment to assist my clients in meeting their treatment objectives.
My approach
I have experience and knowledge in the areas of depression, anxiety, mindfulness, trauma, grief and loss, life transition, and related issues. I engage my clients to examine how their past experiences and current emotions have led them not to have the results in life they want. I work closely with my clients to raise mindful awareness and create changes in their behaviors that will lead them to experience less distress and, ultimately, a more joyful existence.
My focus
I focus on a strength-based approach to guide my clients in re-establishing an authentic relationship with themselves and others so that they are present lovingly and mindfully in the life they envision. I find that CBT, Psychodynamic, and Solution Focused Therapy approaches have been effective in addressing a variety of issues that my clients experience.
My communication style
My primary goal in treatment is to create greater trust and safety in the therapeutic setting so that I can facilitate the free communication and expression of thoughts and feelings. My approach is direct, compassionate, non-judgmental, and supportive. I foster a space of acceptance which includes respecting where my clients are in their lives while challenging them to work towards healthier and more meaningful relationships.
My journey to mental healthcare
I went into the mental health field because I believe in the strength and resiliency of the human soul. I believe change is possible, and I am humbled to be a part of the client's change process. I am passionate about helping people grow, change, and ultimately feel their best.
My goals for you
I believe goal setting is a collaborative process between the client and the therapist. I welcome and encourage my clients to be a part of this process. I work collaboratively with clients to identify challenges as well as the practical steps needed to achieve life-long goals.
My first session with you
The first session is going to be focused on rapport building. I will create an accepting and empathic setting to help my clients contain distress, and I will provide a comfortable atmosphere to assist clients in acclimating to the space.
