My name is Mari Verano, LMFT. My psychotherapy practice focuses on improving mental health for communities of color, immigrant communities, and anti-racist allies. My specialties are stress management and burnout prevention for teachers, health care workers, and social services professionals, addictions (drugs, alcohol, sex/porn), and women with late-diagnosed ADHD.
My approach
I commonly use CBT, DBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Strength-based therapy, and somatic therapy in my work.
My focus
I mainly work with clients of color, children of immigrants, and anti-racist allies. I am most comfortable working with anxiety, ADHD, depression, severe stress, and trauma symptoms.
My communication style
I am directive but warm and have an offbeat sense of humor. When you work with me, you will never leave a session without tools and strategies to help manage distress.
My journey to mental healthcare
My own journey as a narcissistic abuse survivor, a former twice-exceptional youth, and someone with multiple marginalized identities (female, neurodivergent, Asian, and pansexual) drives me to do this work. However, I am aware that everyone who shares my identities navigates stress and trauma differently. My work is deeply rooted in the intention to empower marginalized and multiply marginalized communities, and to empower overworked and under-appreciated healthcare, social services, and education professionals.
My goals for you
Goal-setting with my clients is a co-created process where goals are directly tied to each client's deepest values.
My first session with you
I will find out what you want out of therapy and meet you where you are. I take a no-nonsense, practical approach that is individually tailored to your unique strengths and values.
