Hello! My name is Tonia Garnett, and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in California, offering telehealth therapy to women experiencing life transitions, anxiety, depression, domestic violence, and relationship issues.
My approach
I start where you are. Talk and movement can help—processing experiences and emotions and learning to self-regulate utilizing mindfulness, possibly looking back at childhood trauma, and identifying beginnings that could lead to new endings. I've been where you are. I experienced trauma that had me stuck beyond my own understanding. Allowing someone to walk with me and assist changed my life. I want to offer the same.
My focus
There are times in our lives when we feel like everything we've experienced comes back. You held it together for your family, friends, and job, but you're tired. You find yourself coming in and out of depression, having a hard time in relationships, and just don't feel like yourself. Allow help. Show up with your pieces, and we will work together to piece them back.
My communication style
I want you to feel comfortable and safe in our sessions. I am not rigid, and our sessions won't be either. I often times insert humor and sharing relatable information to assist with building rapport and community.
My journey to mental healthcare
I received my bachelor's and master's degrees from Loyola University Chicago and have worked with diverse communities and specialties before obtaining my clinical license and practicing. I've been in therapy and have experienced many of the issues you are facing. I combine what I know and what I've learned in my work with my clients.
My goals for you
We can start where you are and focus on what is most pressing. We have the time to process backward to determine how you got to this point. There is no judgment or shaming as we unpack history and experiences.
My first session with you
In our first session, we will ask each other questions. Gather a history and begin to determine a starting point.
