Hi there, I'm Truvette!

Hi there, My name is Truvette Hollinquest and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. I did not get to this field by accident. In fact, I have entered into this field because my hope of offering compassion, empathy, and hope to others has become one of my life's missions. I specialize in depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, and relationship therapy. My culturally responsive approach allows me to work with anyone.

My approach

I am a therapist who borrows from a multitude of techniques including, CBT, IFS, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy, but most importantly, I get to know you and I do my best to gear my approach towards what will best help you reach your goals. Because I am a collaborative therapist, I have no problem with making adjustments that will benefit you. I am honest and I don't pretend to know everything, but I offer all that I know and all the compassion that I have, and most often, that seems to work.

My focus

I have worked with clients who experience mild to moderate depression and anxiety to clients who are struggling with relationship issues, substance use, and trauma. I have a passion for young adults between the ages of 18-25 and older adults. I also do a lot of work with Black Indigenous People of Color. Finally, I am very comfortable with couples and people who are experiencing other relationship issues.

My communication style

I like to think I am approachable. I understand how difficult and anxiety-producing it can be to meet with someone that you don't know to talk about things that you may not share with even your closest friends and family. Because of this, I am laid back and I believe that my tone is pretty conversational.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have lived experiences with a multitude of traumas, and I like to say that I am a recovering and ex-survivor of just about everything!! I think that I started in this field decades ago trying to fix myself. Unfortunately, that did not work (it rarely does). For my second try at becoming a therapist, I wanted to help others because someone had helped me. Providing services to people in need is an honor and a privilege because I should not have survived my struggles, but I did, and I am certain that I survived for a reason. I have had ample time to improve my life story. My goal is to listen to you and support you as you improve yours.

My goals for you

My approach to goal setting depends on my clients. Some people come in with specific goals for therapy and I do my best to honor their goals. If the goals are not working, are not achievable or appropriate, then we sit and talk about possibly adjusting the goals. For other people, I suggest a goal and ask them how they feel about the suggestion. Never do I make a goal that you are not comfortable with.

My first session with you

I know that first sessions are often filled with a lot of questions. There is usually no way around this. However, I also want you to have some time talking about what brought you to therapy and what outcome you are looking for. I want to get to know you and I don't want you to feel interrogated!!!
