My name is Rachel Douglas. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist. I approach therapy in a way that focuses on building a safe space for you to be acknowledged, heard, understood and validated appropriately. My areas of practice are working with individuals, couples, adolescents, and families.
My approach
My foundational theoretical approach is psychodynamic theory. However, I believe that the therapist should adjust to the client, not the other way around. I am willing to work with you to find an approach that helps you in the most effective way possible. I have worked with several theoretical approaches including motivational interviewing, ACT, CBT, DBT, Gottman, Imago, and more.
My focus
I enjoy working with adolescents, individuals, couples, and families. I am comfortable working with all types of disorders and mental health issues.
My communication style
I want my clients to feel comfortable working with me. I encourage my clients to let me know when something does not work for them so that I can adjust what I'm doing. Not only am I working to create a safe space but a positive experience for my clients so that the therapeutic experience can be one that clients find beneficial.
My journey to mental healthcare
I enjoy assisting people make positive changes in their lives. Most people struggle with being seen and heard, which can lead to many different mental health issues. If I can help others feel seen and heard, I feel like I'm doing my part to make this world a little bit better.
My goals for you
Goal setting should be a collaborative effort. I like for clients to take the lead in the goals for treatment and adjustments can be made along the way as rapport and trust are built.
My first session with you
The first session is a "get to know you". We are meeting for the first time and I encourage you to interview me as much as I interview you. I'd like us to be a good match for one another so that we can work together effectively.
