Hi there, I'm Seth!

Hi, I'm Seth Scher, and I'm a therapist who helps people with their feelings and relationships. I'm here to support those dealing with addiction, trauma, and mental health issues. I also work with those who experience sadness, worry, or have trouble in their relationships. My approach focuses on nurturing a compassionate and supportive connection as we work together.

My approach

As a psychotherapist, I believe in the potential for positive change. My focus initially is on developing a strong therapeutic connection with my clients, taking the time to build trust, and creating a comfortable, supportive atmosphere. By incorporating attachment theory and a psychodynamic approach, I assist clients in revealing how their early life experiences can provide meaningful insights and cultivate inner strength. Every session is devoted to helping them progress towards greater confidence, balance, and a future filled with hope.

My focus

Throughout my career, I've worked in various places, mostly helping people with their mental health struggles. However, most of my experience has been in community mental health, where I've helped people facing difficult times, dealing with issues like feeling down or anxious. In this field, I've supported people who are going through tough times, dealing with things like feeling down or anxious. I've also worked with those facing challenges related to substance use and the impact of past traumatic experiences.

My communication style

My goal is to create a therapeutic environment that is safe, paced to allow for thoughtful reflection, and built on a therapeutic relationship. This is your therapy, and you are the one in charge. I value your input and encourage your thoughts about your therapy, all while leaving space for humor and meaningful conversation.

My journey to mental healthcare

I’ve always been someone who asks big questions and endeavors to find answers regarding why people face challenges, and more importantly, what individuals can do to enhance their own lives. How can we discover meaning and purpose in our lives, especially when they are frequently filled with difficulties? My quest began in my early twenties when I volunteered at mental health facilities, including hospitals, while simultaneously pursuing studies in clinical psychology as both an undergraduate and graduate student. Helping others has allowed me to discover purpose and fulfillment in my own life.

My goals for you

Goal setting is an essential part of therapy. I see it as a collaborative partnership, providing crucial context for building a therapeutic relationship based on my understanding of your priorities and concerns.

My first session with you

The first session can be somewhat awkward, as you're essentially sharing personal issues with someone you don't know. My primary goal during this initial meeting is to ensure my clients feel comfortable enough to open up. I do this by asking questions about their histories while also giving them the empowerment to redirect or halt certain lines of questioning if it becomes too emotionally challenging. Ultimately, I want this session to provide a clear understanding of how I work and who I am as a therapist, enabling the client to decide if I'm the right fit for their therapy journey.
