Hi there, I'm Oscar!

I am a United States Marine Corps veteran and aim to follow a motto that I was taught leave it better than you found it. I aim to partner alongside my clients as a means to attain this goal. I have worked in various settings, including therapeutic programs for children in the foster system, Christian counseling, and individual and group therapy. I also performed work in residential substance abuse treatment centers. Before becoming a clinician, I began my career in the helping profession in 2014 with my bachelor's. I worked with troubled youth and fellow veterans adjusting to life after Injuries and service. I approach my work with trauma-informed care understanding the process of learning to overcome the stressors in life in stages to attain the final goal.

My approach

I understand that many aspects of our lives can affect our mental health and exacerbate issues, so I will take a multi-faceted approach to include taking other potential conditions into account that may need medical attention and referrals. In helping clients meet their needs, I use trauma-informed care, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), gestalt work, Motivational interviewing, and Client-centered work and I use the internal family systems model.

My focus

My ideal client has a vested interest in their health and well-being and is willing to both talk and listen as a means to gain insight, learn the patterns, process their emotions, create a plan of change, and implement it. I take my time in listening and allowing the opportunity for these individuals to create space to learn from themselves in a guided discussion.

My communication style

I have learned to be an observer and will listen to key points in my client's dialogue and present the opportunity to reflect and resolve internal conflicts. I have learned to have a cool, calm, and collected character not only in sessions but also in life. I listen to my clients and aim to see your side of the conversation and will give psycho-education to support your thoughts and observations.

My journey to mental healthcare

I initially had the drive to help others due to my own personal struggles and life experiences. After attaining my own growth and healing, I have come to want to help others because I learned to have compassion and care for others. In my aspirations to want to help genuinely, I have attended over 16 seminars and workshops in the past 4 years, including trauma work, mindfulness, parts work, chronic pain, somatic psychotherapy, substance use, ADHD, and Chronic pain, to name a few. I have willingly attended these to increase my understanding and abilities to help others and grow myself as a helping professional.

My goals for you

Successful care for my clients takes a three-step approach; after the initial session, clients will learn skills to manage their symptoms, will process the event that has caused these stuck points, and will work on building skills to reintegrate into their lives in a healthy manner.

My first session with you

In my first session, I take a biological, psychological, social, and spiritual history if you disclose one and allow the space for you to label the current struggles, how it has impacted you, and what you hope to achieve in therapy.
