Many individuals do not come to therapy because they think it will make them look "crazy" or like they have "issues". I want to work with you to change that mindset! Truth is, we have all gone through something, but it's much more comforting when we do not have to go through it alone. Whether it's anxiety, stress, depression, grief, or relationship issues, there is always a way for us to overcome. Together, we can work on leading you to the path of healing, growth, and resiliency. Utilizing a mix of humanistic and cognitive-behavioral approaches, we will work together as you walk through your journey.
My approach
My approach to therapy includes a mix of humanistic and cognitive-behavioral approaches. I believe that one hat does not fit all so I take a multi-level approach to these when working together.
My focus
My approach to therapy includes a mix of humanistic and cognitive-behavioral approaches. I believe that one hat does not fit all so I take a multi-level approach to these things. My client's focus is on how to strengthen the individual while encouraging them to work on the issues presented. I strive to uplift my clients and provide them with tools that can help them long term.
My communication style
I believe in meeting people where they are, I create an environment of comfort and non-judgment. I utilize active listening, empathetic listening, open-ended questioning, and validation so the client knows they are being heard and respected regardless of what is going on in your life.
My journey to mental healthcare
My therapy journey started when my brother died by suicide. I became curious as to how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors connected, so I worked in various areas that offered me the opportunity to train with individuals with co-morbid diagnoses. I graduated from Cal-State Los Angeles with a bachelor's in psychology. Throughout my education, I volunteered time with different foundations dedicated to raising awareness of suicide and suicide prevention as well as mental health. I earned my master's degree in counseling psychology with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from North Central University in Los Angeles. What drives me to do this work is the stigma behind therapy. I want to show people that it is ok to have things going on in their life, it's ok to have feelings and it's ok to talk to someone. The amount of people struggling to find a way to survive issues related to childhood trauma, poverty, dysfunctional families, suicidal ideation, and other life-changing events is at an alarmingly high. I want them to know they deserve to be heard and they deserve to heal and that is why I am here.
My goals for you
I take a collaborative approach to goal setting. I work with individuals using a cognitive–behavioral and humanistic approach. I like to let the client lead and know they are in charge of what we work on and I am there to provide support and guidance along the way.
My first session with you
I like to use the first session as a chance to get to know you and build rapport. I give clients the opportunity to express their fears about therapy and how they would like me to help them. I also like to answer any questions they may have. I want my clients to feel welcomed and at ease, while I assess their mental health needs and see how we can collaborate on what they would like to work on.
