Hi there, I'm Nicole!

Inspired by people and their unique gifts, Dr. Nicole Andreatta is a License Marriage and Family Therapist that leverages a multidimensional approach to the science of human thriving, including positive psychology, neuroscience, and the social and behavioral sciences.

My approach

My therapeutic approach is strengths-based and non-pathologizing, focusing on my client's resilience and resourcefulness rather than their deficits or problems. Each and every one of us possesses unique strengths, values, and abilities that can be leveraged to overcome challenges and achieve personal growth. In addition, my therapeutic approach is influenced by Narrative Therapy. Narrative therapy is a form of psychotherapy that emphasizes the power of personal stories in shaping one's identity and experiences. As a narrative therapist, I work collaboratively with clients to explore the stories they tell themselves and how these narratives may be contributing to their struggles. Through this process, we aim to re-author these stories in a way that promotes healing, growth, and a sense of agency.

My focus

Often my clients are going through a period of transition that can be challenging, which could be related to various life events such as the loss of a loved one, a health crisis or other traumatic event, questioning identity or a career change, empty nesting, or divorce. My clients tend to be people who understand that happiness isn't the absence of negative emotions. While it's important to address the pain and suffering in life, it is equally important to learn and understand how to cultivate meaning and purpose, joy, and connection for your well-being.

My communication style

I've always loved the quote "There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it." -- Edith Wharton. In my sessions, I aim to create an enviroment where my clients feel valued, safe, and supported. My communication style is honest, direct, and kind.

My journey to mental healthcare

I began my career working with individuals recovering from traumatic brain injuries. I was inspired by the resiliency of both patients and their families. I became fascinated with the ability of the human brain to develop new neural pathways to learn to walk again, communicate, etc. Surely if the brain is capable of this, it's capable to build new neural pathways designated to increased well-being and happiness. It is with this assumption in mind that I pursued my education in psychology and the hope I still carry into each therapeutic alliance.

My goals for you

I approach goal setting by listening to my clients. It's as simple as that, I ask my client's what their goals are and we collaborate together to develop the path forward.

My first session with you

Generally, during the first session, I seek to understand what prompted clients to make the brave move to seek counseling, learn a bit about what goals they have in mind for therapy, and answer any of their questions regarding the therapeutic process to work towards an alignment of expectations. An initial session could vary depending on the reason for the visit. For example, if someone was in crisis, a safety plan would be established.
