Hello, My name is Janine Monson and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have over 20 years of experience providing mental health services to individuals, couples, families, and youth. I enjoy working with clients to navigate through life's many challenges and transitions in the healthiest way possible.
My approach
I have been told that I am straightforward but compassionate. I tend to use humor when it is appropriate as I find it helps my clients to relax which makes it easier to be more open in a situation that is not always comfortable. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and some components of Dialectical Behavior Therapy and enjoy helping my clients see their situation from various perspectives. I also utilize Brief or Solution Focused Practices which is helpful when clients have a specific issue they would like to address. Motivational Interviewing is another approach that is very helpful in the beginning stages of therapy
My focus
I find that working with motivated clients who show up and are willing to put in the work is the most rewarding. I enjoy working with clients who want to get to know themselves at a deeper level and make positive changes. I have worked with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, gender issues, and women's issues, just to name a few.
My communication style
I like for my clients to feel comfortable within the therapeutic setting and know that there is no judgment of their situation. I want them to feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and feelings. I am an active listener and give feedback when needed.
My journey to mental healthcare
I decided I wanted to be a therapist when I began to realize I was really good at helping people figure out "life situations". I am curious about people and the choices that they make. I always want to know the how and the why of a situation and what makes people tick.
My goals for you
I prefer to give my clients the opportunity to participate in the setting of goals during their treatment. I think it is important to have an objective for therapy and a means to measure the clients' progress.
My first session with you
I like to give a client an opportunity to express why they are seeking therapy services and to talk about what they hope to get out of the process. I am open to telling them a bit about my professional experience and then having them ask any questions. We would also talk about what future sessions will entail.
