Hi there, I'm Alexis!

My therapeutic approach encompasses many modalities, all of which are provided in a warm, safe, and supportive environment. In my practice, I use motivational interviewing, a goal-directed technique that allows my Client to explore and discover the possibility of changes within one’s self. Metaphorically, I consider myself a “seed planter,” which is the simple act of setting an idea into motion that will help one create the life he/she wants to lead. I use a combination of Cognitive-Behavioral, Solution-Focused, Narrative, Family systems, Existential, Psychodynamic, Acceptance, and Commitment therapy. By focusing on the positives, my Clients can start to see the progress they are making in their journey.

My approach

I utilize three approaches to psychotherapy, Solution Focused: Solution-focused therapy technique to support the client with acknowledging that she/he has an impact on the movement toward a goal which allows hope to become present. The clinician emphasizes the resources and strengths clients invariably possess and how these can be applied to the change process. Narrative: Narrative therapy technique to support the Client with identifying the stories that the Client has developed and carried with him/her throughout life and how those stories no longer serve him/her. The clinician supports the Client with changing their “story” and setting goals. CBT: Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) explores the links between thoughts, emotions, and behavior. Clinician utilized tools to support the Client in alleviating distress by helping the Client to develop more adaptive cognitions and behaviors in which negative patterns of thought about the self and the world are challenged to alter unwanted behavior patterns.

My focus

My ideal Client is willing to stop avoiding, denying, and struggling with her/his inner emotions and, instead, accept that these deeper feelings are appropriate responses to certain situations that should not prevent her/him from moving forward in her/his life. This Client is willing to participate in therapy and do the hard work that it requires to make changes.

My communication style

My communication style is direct and transparent. I provide constructive, effective, supportive communication that is colored with good emotions. Communication that includes positive intentionality, initiative, adaptation to the interlocutor, empathic listening, and social support.

My goals for you

Symptom reduction is my therapeutic goal as well as learning new skills and tools to manage emotions/behaviors that are maladaptive.

My first session with you

During my first session, the Client can expect me to utilize motivational interviewing which is a technique/style that challenges people to develop the internal motivations necessary to counteract or change certain behaviors they consider problematic in their lives. It is a practical, empathetic, and short-term process that takes into consideration how difficult it is to make life changes. I will often ask historical questions directly related to mental health, and family dynamics that will allow the client to dive deeper into the question of why? We will start to uncover layers that the Client might not have been aware of that are causing discomfort. We will begin to work through the subconscious thoughts that are driving are maladaptive behaviors.
