Hello! My name is Peter Stephens, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of California. I graduated with a Master of Science in Counseling from Loma Linda University in 2019. I am also working toward a Doctorate in Applied Clinical Psychology (PsyD) from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Anaheim.
My approach
My clinical approach to therapy includes a humanistic-existential framework and unconditional positive regard for each person sitting across from me. I utilize Gestalt therapy, person-center therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral interventions during one on one, individual therapy sessions, as well as Solution-Focused, and Emotion-Focused therapies.
My focus
I am willing to see individuals and couples. My specialties include addiction, alcohol use, anger management, anxiety, bipolar disorder, codependency, coping skills, depression, divorce, and trauma and PTSD.
My communication style
I maintain a non-judgmental perspective and aim to build therapeutic rapport as an act of corrective relationship, and healthy attachment.
My journey to mental healthcare
I graduated with a Master of Science in Counseling from Loma Linda University in 2019. I completed my clinical hours for licensure at Childhelp in Beaumont, CA from August to December 2019, DBH County of San Bernardino in Rialto, CA from January 2020 to April 2021, and Serenity Lodge Recovery Services in Lake Arrowhead, CA from April to October 2021. I am currently working toward a Doctorate in Applied Clinical Psychology (PsyD) from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Anaheim.
My goals for you
My goal is to help build self-awareness, insight, and assertive communication skills while increasing each individual's level of emotional authenticity, in order to reconcile past hurts, and allow for psychological wounds to begin to heal. Integrating "cut off" parts of the self, and allowing for the person to reconnect with who they really are is a pivotal component of the therapeutic healing process.
