Hi. I am Rolan Dillard. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), board certified in the states of California and Texas. What is an LCSW and what can I do for you? I am a mental health professional authorized to assess, diagnose, and treat individuals of all ages and economic groups who may be experiencing mental, emotional, and behavioral issues. I use a person-centered, holistic, approach to therapy which views the individual as a part of their environment, and which also relies on education and advocacy to help remove the stigma of mental illness as the individual moves along their path of change.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is grounded in evidence-based practices delivered ethically and non-judgmentally. I draw on multiple perspectives given there is no one size fits all approach. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBT), Mindfulness work, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Rogerian/Person-Centered Therapy. Effective therapy is tailored to the individual and recognizes the essential element to effective therapy is a good, trusting client/therapist relationship.
My focus
I have experience with Individual therapy with adults, adolescents, and children. A child's minimum age should be six years. I am not currently enrolling clients for Couples Therapy. I am comfortable treating the following conditions: Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Trauma Related Disorders, Abuse and Neglect, Dual Diagnosis, Anger, Impulsivity, and ADHD.
My communication style
A safe, calm, respectful, non-judgmental environment is our starting place. What follows will depend in large part on your communication style. As the expert on you, I will need you to teach me about you. Previous clients have described me as calm, caring, and a good listener. You can expect me to be interactive and directive during our time together. I will ask questions to clarify my understanding of your point or intent. In our work together, you will set goals and I will help you set the waypoints along the way.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to my chosen profession began with lived experiences. My family was negatively impacted by an alcoholic parent which led to a failed marriage and business. I, in turn, became the father of a child with a developmental disability. These two factors worked to acquaint me with various social services systems and to observe the impacts of stress, depression, and other conditions on individuals and families. I developed an interest in how some individuals had the resilience to manage life as challenges in positive ways while others had negative responses and outcomes. Ultimately I chose the field of social work as my way of helping such individuals and families through education, advocacy, resource referrals, and clinical interventions. The choice has been a good fit for me.
My goals for you
I like to have the client develop their therapy goal(s) prior to our first meeting. We then collaborate to articulate those goals using the SMART criteria (Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic, Timely).
My first session with you
Clients should expect a full review of informed consent, expectations and goals of treatment (client and therapist), the plan of care, development of a plan to facilitate communication in the event of platform disruption, cancel or reschedule appointments, and plan to access crisis resources or other higher level of care. We will begin the development of the client's SMART goals and objectives.
