Hi there, I'm Mark!

My name is Mark Sayre and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and I have worked with individuals, couples, and families seeking counseling for over 18 years, both online and in person.

My approach

My approach is person-centered and I collaborate with clients to identify which issues matter to them most and which you would like to address first. Part of my commitment to clients is to listen to them mindfully with acceptance and compassion. I like to take a holistic approach and tend to integrate theoretical approaches of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy MBCT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Humanistic/Existential, and Narrative Therapy. I view the client as a whole person and believe in a holistic approach to therapy.

My focus

I have worked with individuals, groups, couples, and families seeking counseling for over 18 years, both online and in person. Currently, I am enjoying working one-on-one with individuals via telehealth. Most of my career was spent working with people with moderate to severe mental health issues in the areas of Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, Trauma, and Stress related issues. I also spent 3 years working primarily on substance use disorders, many of which also had co-occurring severe mental health issues including dissociative and thought disorders.

My communication style

In therapy sessions, I try to create an environment in which the client feels comfortable and safe. As we talk, I will notice things and ask questions, and we may discover things together that they are not aware of, or maybe they are aware of but forget, and I will point these things out. I am also committed to teaching others things to help them improve their ability to function and reduce things like worry, sadness, and stress.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have always been full of curiosity and found inspiration from the stories of others. Often the stories people have are full of suffering. I have a deep respect for people in therapy, for their courage, strength, and resilience. I am driven to help others reduce their suffering.

My goals for you

I believe that goal setting should be done in collaboration with the client and should address the most pressing issues that the client would like to address in therapy. Baselines are often established regarding things that the client would like to change so that change can be measurable. Identifying strengths and resources should be included in the process as a part of treatment planning.

My first session with you

The first session is usually focused on gathering more information on what the client is seeking help for, and this includes gathering client history. So, the client should expect to be asked to provide personal information and history that may be relevant to treatment and to begin to identify goals and next steps for treatment.
