Hello, my name is Kenji Watanabe, and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist. I focus on providing an engaging, collaborative, and supportive therapy experience. I am passionate about helping clients struggling with anxiety, OCD, depression, ADD/ADHD, addictions, loss, grief, or just a general stuckness about life.
My approach
My style of therapy is collaborative, engaging, and lively. I value the client's input and personal goals for therapy. I take a client-centered approach within a Motivational Interviewing framework alongside a range of theories such as cognitive-behavioral, family systems, and psychodynamic orientations.
My focus
I enjoy working with clients that are struggling with anxiety, OCD, depression, ADD/ADHD, addictions, loss and grief, family conflict, cultural issues, burnout, and life transition issues.
My communication style
I am empathic, engaging, and supportive. I value the client's own creativity, strengths, and resourcefulness. The client is the expert in their own life. I aim for clients to experience a deeper sense of connection, freedom, and hope within their own selves and their most significant relationships.
My journey to mental healthcare
Two things attracted me to pursue a career as a therapist. First, at the age of 21, I started my own therapy journey with a fantastic therapist, and her presence and skills literally changed my life. Second, after working in the retail management world for over 10 years, I discovered that my personality and skills were better suited to helping people and not just stocking shelves. I do this work because I believe that people can change, and often times they just need someone to walk alongside them for a season or two.
My goals for you
I take a collaborative approach to setting therapeutic goals. As therapy develops, the client and I can strengthen or revise goals to fit the stages they are in.
My first session with you
A client can expect the first session to be a feeling-out process. It is important for the client to feel that they have found a therapist to match their expectations, personality, and the way they want to work.
