Hello! My name is Jenn Torres Duran (she/they) and I'm a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). I believe strongly in the innate natural talents we each hold and am ready to help stand with my clients to achieve the goals and ambitions held for their present and future. I utilize many different modalities (SFBT, CBT, EFT, EMDR, and ACT to name a few), depending on what my clients need in order to co-create tools and brainstorm ideas to face intergenerational traumas, depression, anxiety, and more!
My approach
I believe that clients are the expert of their own lives and are ready to work in tandem together; I am here to listen and work as a partner in my client's goals and journeys. While my approach does change depending on what the client is needing and requesting, I aim to always be direct and clear in my communication so we both know how we are working together and what we are working towards. I most often use Accept and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approaches, but I utilize many other modalities as well depending on client needs and preferences.
My focus
I am particularly passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ persons as this is an identity of mine that I am strongly connected to and have done a lot of personal work within myself. I find I am a good fit for individuals navigating different cultural expectations, working through intergenerational trauma, and trying to redefine what life looks like for them as they step into the version of themselves they are most happy and content with. I speak Spanish and English and can provide services in both languages.
My communication style
My communication style is warm, soft, and caring. I want any client who works with me to feel heard, understood and held when they work with me. I also aim to be very clear and will ensure we are both on the same page so that our work together is fruitful! As such, I aim to respond with loving honesty and will also solicit honest feedback from my clients as well.
My journey to mental healthcare
I am passionate about working as a therapist because I believe in helping grow the tools and foundations we all carry so that we can continue in this world and our bodies as the most self-actualized persons we can be. I truly believe that if a person feels like they are well and they are on the journey they want, then they will also create a ripple effect that will result in more kindness, goodness, and beauty in the world. We all have so much to give, and I know how traumas, depression, and anxiety can make us feel like we have nothing. My quest is to help nurture that flame that we feel is fading or has gone out so that we can continue to build more wonder in this world.
My goals for you
To truly be successful we have to know what we are working towards. I will sit with my clients and explore and discover what we are carrying, what is contributing to our concerns, and what our ideal change would be. Together we work on steps to achieve this vision in the future. A client is here for my help and I am here to listen and co-create with them! I also know goals and steps can change as life events occur and unexpected circumstances arise. I am always ready and willing to revisit our goals to create the most authentic, relevant, and successful outcome that the client is hoping for.
My first session with you
The first session with clients is building the foundation of our relationship and building my knowledge of what has contributed to the current concern and/or goal. I will spend most of the first meeting getting to know what is currently going on, what may have led to it, and understanding more about the client's background. With this information, we will begin to explore how we can start to work together. This will be our first 'draft' of our goals together and we will continue to refine this with every session that follows.
