My name is Cynthia Little, LMFT. Therapy can be a transformative process. My hope is that by providing a safe space that feels authentic, transparent, and compassionate, that you will feel comfortable to explore your painful personal experiences. Our past influences our present, let’s take a step back to examine yourself, learn about your strengths, and work towards making empowering decisions that move you forward on your journey to good mental health and wellness.
My approach
I offer a non-judgmental and supportive space. I believe each individual is an expert on themselves, and my role as a therapist is to guide you towards growth and healing. I believe it’s important to set goals and monitor them often so you can see your progress over time. I used Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness, and pull from other modalities as needed.
My focus
I have been working with clients across the lifespan, since 2010, and currently work with adults and elders 65+. I work with clients who are experiencing, anxiety, depression, and relationship problems – with themselves, parents, and peers. I also work with individuals who struggling with life transitions, self-esteem, infidelity, and women’s issues.
My communication style
I actively and reflectively listen to clients and put their historical experiences on a mental timeline, and from there ask questions that assist the client to make connections that lead to a better understanding of current behaviors and actions. I work collaboratively using a systematic approach to facilitate change.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became a therapist as a result of coming from a large culturally and economically diverse family. I found myself observing their behaviors, from a young age, and fascinated by the reasons they reacted or responded to things that happened to them. This in turn helped me to explore my own behaviors by observing my own interactions, reading, and eventually seeking a therapist myself, which helped me to grow and heal. Coming from a large family, helping others came naturally to me. I spent time volunteering, while in high school, supporting children who were struggling emotionally. I also volunteered in assisted living facilities working with elderly patients, and later as a suicide and crisis counselor. What drives me to do this work is having seen clients gain hope, build trust in themselves, and become who they want to be.
My goals for you
I work collaboratively with clients to develop the goals they want to work on in therapy and together track progress. I also work collaboratively with clients as they do the work in therapy, and continually build a therapeutic relationship that includes caring, trust, and respect.
My first session with you
During the initial session, the time is spent getting to know you and building a connection; the reasons you are seeking therapy, what you feel is working and not working in your life, and how you would like to move forward. The first session is also about you getting to know the therapist.
