Hello. I'm Ann Gimpel, a licensed psychologist. I believe in client-centered therapy and in crafting a safe and supportive environment for my clients.
My approach
Rather than being wedded to a particular theoretical approach, I will blend several to meet my clients' needs. I have background and training in cognitive behavioral, psychoanalytic, marital therapy, and client coaching, to name a few.
My focus
Clients experiencing life stressors such as job and relationship issues will be a great fit with my skill set. I'm also interested in addictions, chronic pain, and chronic health issues. As a cancer survivor, I've been there.
My communication style
I aim for unconditional positive regard. My office is one place where you can be who you are with no apologies. I will meet you where you are and help determine tools and strategies to make your life experience richer.
My journey to mental healthcare
I've been a psychologist for a long while. Been licensed since 1997. Ever since my undergraduate days, I couldn't imagine being anything else. I still remember the beginning of my junior year when I had to declare a major. Nothing was computerized back then, and I sat with the U.W. catalog open on my lap paging through it. I kept returning to psychology and have never looked back. Over the years, I've done many things with my advanced degrees in the field to validate my choice.
My goals for you
My clients set their own goals. We then work together to bring them to fruition.
My first session with you
Aside from the nuts and bolts of informed consent and office policies and procedures, the initial visit is for us to get to know one another a bit better. I will determine if I have sufficient expertise in your particular problems and issues to be of assistance, and you will determine if you believe you and I are a good fit.
