As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Virginia, I bring a compassionate and empathetic approach to counseling. With prior experience as an MFT in California, I have worked with clients individually, in groups, and through family therapy. My focus has been on supporting adults who are survivors of abuse and other traumas, as well as those struggling with depression, anxiety, grief, loss, and relationship issues.
My approach
My counseling style combines empathy and compassion for those facing challenges that hinder them from being their best selves. I incorporate mindfulness techniques, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and a client-centered approach to foster personal growth, leading to a sense of well-being and confidence. Our therapeutic relationship will serve as the foundation for this transformative journey.
My focus
I specialize in working with individuals, particularly those dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, PTSD, cultural stress, self-esteem issues, and relationship concerns. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where clients can develop coping skills and gain insights to navigate life's challenges effectively.
My communication style
Communication is key in our therapeutic relationship. I strive to create an open, non-judgmental environment where you feel heard and understood. Through active listening and thoughtful feedback, we will collaborate to identify your unique strengths and develop strategies tailored to your specific needs and goals. I am fluent in both English and Spanish, allowing me to serve a diverse range of clients.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to mental healthcare began with a deep-rooted passion for helping others. I initially worked as a financial analyst for nearly 10 years, before changing careers after being a hospice volunteer for adults in addition to volunteering on the Oncology floor at Children's Hospital Los Angeles after a colleague's daughter was hospitalized there. I went back to school and earned my master's degree in counseling psychology, driven by the desire to make a positive difference in people's lives. I began with clinical hours at the Barbara Sinatra Children's Center in Rancho Mirage, California, from 1990 to 1998, gaining invaluable experience in supporting children and families and obtaining my license as a Marriage and Family Therapist.
My goals for you
As your therapist, my primary goal is to empower you to lead a fulfilling life, unburdened by the weight of past experiences or present challenges. Together, we will work on building resilience, self-awareness, and the tools necessary to navigate life's ups and downs with confidence. I am committed to supporting you in your journey towards healing, personal growth, and achieving your full potential.
My first session with you
During our first session, we will focus on establishing a strong therapeutic alliance built on trust, empathy, and understanding. I will take the time to listen to your story, concerns, and aspirations, creating a safe space for you to share openly. We will collaboratively identify your goals for therapy and develop a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your unique needs and preferences. This initial session will lay the groundwork for our journey together, as we embark on a path towards healing and self-discovery.
