Hi there, I'm Katharine!

I am a dedicated mental health professional with 40 years of experience working in various medical settings. I understand that at times, each of us may need a caring person to help navigate life's struggles, whether they involve relational issues, physical challenges, mental health concerns like anxiety and depression, or difficulties related to life stages.

My approach

My approach to therapy is grounded in empathy and compassion. I draw upon a range of therapeutic modalities, including attachment-based therapy, client-centered therapy, complicated grief therapy, compassion-focused therapy, couples therapy, existential therapy, family therapy, feminist therapy, group therapy, integrative/integral psychotherapy, mindfulness-based approaches, object relations therapy, person-centered therapy, psychodynamic therapy, Rogerian therapy, supportive therapy, and transpersonal therapy. I tailor my approach to best suit each individual's unique needs and circumstances.

My focus

I work with individuals, couples, families, and minors aged 13-17. My areas of specialty include addiction, alcohol use, anxiety, behavioral issues, bipolar disorder, chronic illness, chronic pain, codependency, coping skills, depression, divorce, domestic violence, drug abuse, dual diagnosis, eating disorders, grief, impulsivity, internet addiction, job stress, life transitions, mood disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), parenting, psychosis, relationship issues, school issues, self-esteem, self-harm, sexual addiction, spirituality, stress, substance use, thought disorders, trauma and PTSD, women's issues, marital/pre-marital concerns, and gender identity.

My communication style

I believe in fostering an open, supportive, and non-judgmental environment where my patients feel heard, validated, and empowered. Through active listening, genuine care, and collaborative dialogue, I aim to create a safe space for self-exploration, growth, and healing.

My journey to mental healthcare

I earned my Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego, where I studied from August 1984 to June 1990. My extensive experience in various medical settings over the past 40 years has equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and empathy necessary to effectively support individuals facing a wide range of life challenges and mental health concerns.

My goals for you

My primary goal is to help you navigate this difficult time in your life with compassion, understanding, and professional guidance. Together, we will work towards developing coping strategies, gaining new insights, and fostering personal growth and resilience. I am committed to supporting you on your journey towards improved mental well-being and a more fulfilling life.

My first session with you

During our first session, we will focus on understanding your current situation, concerns, and goals for therapy. This will be an opportunity for you to share your story in a safe and supportive environment. We will also discuss the therapeutic process, address any questions you may have, and begin to develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique needs and aspirations. My aim is to create a strong therapeutic alliance built on trust, respect, and collaboration from the very beginning of our work together.
