My name is Mandip “Mandi” Grewal, and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PSYD) based in California and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work primarily with adults specializing in anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress, and clients to better understand themselves and their relationship to self.
My approach
My style is eclectic and interactive, and I utilize techniques from various therapeutic approaches to meet people where they are. I most frequently use techniques from Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Therapy Behavior (DBT), and trauma-informed practices. My process is to best match each person's unique needs and perspectives while helping them develop tools and skills to empower themselves and achieve their goals.
My focus
I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for adults who may be dealing with anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress, and challenging relationships with self/others. I work to help my clients develop skills to better cope with challenging experiences, teach tools that increase distress tolerance, and provide a space fertile for cultivating a more loving relationship with self.
My communication style
My communication style is calm and personable, yet direct. My intention is always to create a safe space so clients can feel as much ease as is feasible when talking about what is causing challenges in their lives. I often take the role of a warm and compassionate listener, while also directly addressing barriers to the client's well-being. Empathy, compassion, trust, and respect are cornerstones of my approach.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always been intrigued by the mind and human behavior, which stems from my childhood desire to better understand myself and become the best version of me. Not surprisingly, I became fascinated with psychological theories and loved the knowledge and insights they provided me. So, I pursued my doctorate in clinical psychology and started my therapy practice after graduation. My passion for therapy has only deepened as my years of experience increase; there is almost nothing better than seeing a client’s journey unfold where they are in the ocean of life and learn how to catch and surf the waves.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is collaborative. During the initial session, the client and I will identify the client’s general goals for therapy. Then the client and I will have a few sessions to establish the foundation of our working relationship; this includes the client experiencing my therapeutic approach in session and understanding client's expectations for therapy, while I gather information about the client’s background and current life. Once the initial foundation for a trusting and respectful relationship has been laid, the client and I will solidify measurable goals for therapy and identify how progress will be tracked.
My first session with you
Our first session together would be spent in three primary areas: discussing how therapy/sessions work with me, gathering client information, and identifying client’s general goals for therapy. Most of the session will be dedicated to me asking questions to better understand you and your life experience. This back-and-forth dialogue will also give us an opportunity to get a sense of each other and start building our therapeutic relationship.
