My name is Raul Salcedo, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of California. I am an eclectic therapist using CBT, DBT, ACT, solution-focused, and trauma-informed approaches. My background includes working with individuals with mood disorders, substance abuse, dual diagnosis, trauma, and PTSD. I have had the opportunity to work with adults, LGBTQIA individuals, veterans, and individuals impacted by the justice system.
My approach
I approach psychotherapy using a holistic mindset, tailoring your interventions to your specific needs. My top three modalities are CBT, DBT, and ACT, with a trauma-informed approach. I specialize in individuals with mood concerns, substance use concerns, and those dealing with trauma.
My focus
The ideal client will practice exercises/interventions as assigned. The client will be as open and honest as possible, be direct if feeling uncomfortable, and be able to reach out via text if additional clarification or support is needed.
My communication style
I am generally soft-spoken with calm even tones. I will listen until I get a good grasp of what you are communicating. Next, I will summarize my understanding verbally. This will continue until a full understanding is reached and interventions are implemented.
My journey to mental healthcare
I started my journey as a Hospital Corpsman in the US Navy. I treated a variety of medical conditions and held high levels of responsibility. This reinforced my path of being of service to others. I went to college, changing my major from medicine to Social Work. I learned of the great need for therapists at my first job as a CPS investigator. I wanted to continue to be of service, and so began my journey as a therapist.
My goals for you
Progress includes the betterment of mental health over time as interventions are implemented, and clients are able to use tools taught as soon as they are needed.
My first session with you
The first session is an assessment, where I generally use open-ended questions to understand your situation. I will not "dig" or put you on the spot during the first session; I am looking for an overview of your needs and concerns.
