Hi there, I'm Erin!

Hello! My name is Erin King and I am a licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC) in the state of California. I believe in taking time and working on wellness slowly, holistically, and consistently. Just as physical health takes time and consistency, so does mental health.

My approach

I use a person-centered, holistic, multicultural, and integrative approach in treatment. This means I begin where you are and tailor the treatment approach to your needs while being sensitive to how your individual cultural identities and individual lifestyle impact your experience. I primarily use evidence-based techniques including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused counseling. I have extensive experience in DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) as well.

My focus

I have over 10 years working in the mental health field, and I have worked in a variety of settings with many populations. My experience has allowed me to work with individuals who have experienced trauma, natural disasters, sexual abuse, struggles with addiction and other compulsive behaviors, relationship issues, family issues, and individual mental health needs. I have been able to work in schools, community settings, in-home, and outpatient settings, which means I have a broad range of experience and understand complexity of clinical issues. I have the most experience working with anxiety/depression, family and relationship-related conflict, complex trauma and abuse, and life adjustments/transitions.

My communication style

I would describe my style as warm and supportive, and I am ready to help you tackle your struggle head-on. I am an active listener, who will give you space to share and process your experiences and perspectives.

My journey to mental healthcare

I grew up wanting to ‘help people’ without knowing what that would ultimately look like. After having my two amazing daughters, I went back to school, got my degrees, and discovered my love for learning about people, families, and how we process what has happened to us to become who we are. I have been very lucky in my career to have lived in many places and worked with different and diverse populations, and it has been the best learning experience I could have hoped for. I understand the difficulties of working on overcoming mental health challenges and trying to balance demands of life in an often too busy world. I have family members who have struggles with their own mental health, treated and untreated, and I can empathize with the difficult decision it can be to seek help at times. My approach to counseling is non-judgmental and understanding.

My goals for you

Collaboration is important - together we can work on establishing concrete goals and steps for you to help overcome your current problems. If you are looking for quick fixes, I am not the best counselor to work with.

My first session with you

First sessions are a chance to get to know one another. It can create space to outline goals as well as clarify questions about what to expect from treatment.
