Hi there, I'm Jade!

My name is Jade Miller (they/them), and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Los Angeles, California. I work with individual clients across the state via telehealth. I have a client-centered approach and view therapy as an opportunity to provide a space for clients to bring their whole selves into the relationship and collaborate on addressing their needs and concerns.

My approach

My therapeutic approach is primarily strengths-based and client-centered; I consider myself flexible when it comes to adjusting my clinical approach to best align with my client's needs. I do not believe in a cookie-cutter approach to therapy and recognize that each individual has unique needs, which will require me to ensure that my approach is appropriate for what my client hopes to gain from our work. I typically utilize a combination of narrative, attachment, and motivational approaches to help clients identify goals, understand how past experiences impact their present, and determine ways in which their internal resources and external supports can be leveraged to create positive change in their lives.

My focus

I have experience working with clients from various age groups and cultural backgrounds. I primarily work with transition-age youth, adults, and older adults who are navigating life transitions, anxiety, and depression, exploring identity (gender, sexuality, race), or those wanting to learn how to set and maintain boundaries to have healthier interpersonal relationships. I most recently had experience working particularly with current and former sex workers dealing with occupational stress and societal stigma in addition to histories of experiencing trauma.

My communication style

My communication style is gentle and transparent. I have a naturally calm demeanor and believe in meeting the clients where they are. When a client is escalated or struggling to communicate, they can expect that I will ask questions to help them better express what they are feeling or experiencing and ask for clarification when needed. I believe in using reflective listening to ensure that I accurately understand what a client is trying to communicate.

My journey to mental healthcare

My lived experience as a Black, queer, and non-binary person has allowed me to connect easily with people who often feel displaced or "other" in various spaces. At the same time, I recognized that it was difficult for me to find a therapist with whom I could relate or feel connected to and that is what motivated me. I am driven to do this work because I believe in the power of connection to heal and I know how much value can come from engaging in therapy when you feel safe enough to bring your whole self into the "room".

My goals for you

I follow the lead of the client when it comes to goal-setting. I believe that most clients come into therapy with an idea in mind of what they would like to work on and accomplish and my role in our work together is to help guide them toward that goal, track the progress they make, and remind them to celebrate the accomplishments along the way.

My first session with you

During a first session, clients should expect an open conversation about what brings them to therapy, their expectations of me as a therapist, and what they hope to gain from the experience. Clients can also expect time and space in the first session to be set aside to ask questions about me and my experience and approach to ensure that we are compatible and aligned before they are expected to move forward in our work together.
