Hi there, I'm Tiffany!

Hi there! Hello, I am Dr. Tiffany Renteria, an experienced licensed psychologist. Welcome to this journey of growth and self-discovery. Starting therapy can be a daunting task between navigating insurance, finding a provider, scheduling, and simply showing up for the first session. I am a firm believer that starting therapy when you are truly ready will help you get the most out of therapy and access the change that you desire for your life. So welcome, and I commend you for getting to this point in the journey!

My approach

I look at my role as a therapist as someone to walk alongside you on this journey of self-discovery and healing. I take an integrative approach to treatment that is informed by cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, trauma-focused therapy, schema therapy, family systems therapy, and Attachment-based Therapy. I tailor my approach to you as an individual based on what you want to work on, your goals, culture, preferences, background, and symptoms.

My focus

I aim to hold space for you to explore the areas of your life that you want to grow in. I specialize in treating individuals with depression, anxiety, and trauma. I also work with people who may be experiencing loss or grief, relationship challenges, family conflict, parenting-related difficulties, peripartum or postpartum difficulties, work-related stress, changes in identity, shifts in belief systems, and major life changes. I have experience working with a diverse range of clients and value the place that culture, roles, gender, sexual orientation, relationship styles, and belief systems hold in their lives.

My communication style

I like to create a warm, inviting space for you to feel comfortable bringing all aspects of yourself into the session. I have a relaxed style and start my sessions with, "Where would you like to begin?"

My journey to mental healthcare

I have found so much purpose in helping others navigate through some of their toughest moments in life. I am human, too, and I have been through my fair share of life’s difficulties. Through my own work of seeking wholeness for myself, I have found a love for psychology. This started me on the path to seek out my education in psychology in order to gain the experience, skills, and competency to help people reconnect with a stable sense of self, obtain symptom relief, develop a sense of vitality in their lives, experience contentment, establish safety, and develop adaptive boundaries in their relationships. I always tell my clients that when you are in the thick of the symptoms or life's challenges, it is so hard to have hope things will get better, and a big part of my work is to hold that hope for you until you can either see the changes manifest in your life or hold the hope for yourself.

My goals for you

After hearing your story and getting to know you during the first session, we will spend some of that time exploring what you want to get out of treatment. Then, we will work on forming relevant, manageable goals. This is where we will co-create relevant goals that will provide the structure for what we will focus on in treatment. These goals are flexible, and we will revisit them throughout treatment, but I also like to create space for spontaneity and exploration of other topics that come up in your life as well. If we continue treatment past the three-month mark, we will formally review the goals, discuss your progress, and develop new goals.

My first session with you

The first session is a time to explore if we are a good fit for one another as therapist and client. I believe one of the most important factors for successful therapy is to feel comfortable with your therapist. In this first session, it is time for you to establish if that is the case with me. This session is also when I learn more about you and what has been going on in your life and determine if I have the experience and competence to help you achieve your goals. A more practical outline of the first session consists of asking you what brought you into treatment, reviewing symptoms, listening to your story or fuller context of what you want to work on, reviewing relevant background information, discussing tentative diagnoses when relevant, exploring what you want out of treatment; discussing goodness of fit; and establishing 1-3 achievable goals.
