My name is Desiree Trinidad and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LSCW) based in Los Angeles, California working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with women recovering from substance abuse disorder, anxiety, depression, stress, and divorce recovery using Integrative/Holistic Therapy.
My approach
My approach to therapy is to meet each client where they are at and help each client to identify where they want to go using primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Informed Therapy, and Client-Centered Therapy to help the client reach their self-set goals.
My focus
In my experience, my approach has been effective with individuals and families who find themselves facing challenging life transitions often bringing on anxiety, depression, stress, and substance abuse disorder.
My communication style
My communication style is open, receptive, and engaging. I am an active listener and want my clients to feel heard, seen, supported, and safe to talk to me freely.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a therapist began when I was teaching 3rd grade in an inner city school where children were faced with barriers that impeded their ability to fully engage in the academic process. I found myself limited in my ability to truly be effective in the way that was most natural to me because I did not have the credentials to legally address the issues my students faced. I pursued my MSW with the intention of becoming a psychiatric social worker with LAUSD. Upon graduation from the MSW program, LAUSD had a hiring freeze. That's when I was hired at USC Medical Center as a Medical Clinical Social Worker who worked in the ER and Psychiatric Unit. From there I worked with physically and developmentally impaired youth. I then started working in Hospice counseling clients and and their families through the dying process. I have also helped clients facing grave illnesses deal with acute depression and crisis intervention. Presently, I run mindfulness, process, recovery, and community groups for women in recovery. I have discovered that I have yet to meet a population with whom I do not enjoy working with.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is to help clients identify their reality, articulate what is desired, and define and establish clear, concrete, and achievable goals. After building rapport I will journey with the client to develop and enhance their sense of mastery and self-efficacy.
My first session with you
The first session is about building rapport and developing connections. Our first session will be spent getting to know each other. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and share the thoughts, feelings, and experiences that bring you to therapy. I will ask you questions in an effort to deepen my understanding of how might best serve you.
